The Spy Next Door (Mutant Rat Attack #1) by Jay Cooper

Ok, this was much better. I read this one in 35 minutes. It’s a “Year 8” title and yes, in the format of a graphic novel. And it was a hoot and holler of fun..I don’t care about the two Goodreads users who rated it at closer to 3 stars. Seeing as I just finished Evanovich and that was 3 and I laughed a lot more at this, so this gets the 5 star rating. Now don’t go rushing to your store just yet. It isn’t out until February 28, 2017, and is brought to us by the fine folks at Scholastic.

Dexter (I kept thinking of Dexter’s Laboratory) sees his science teacher performing a mysterious experiment and everything suddenly gets interesting. Mr. McFur (also referred to in my head as Mr McFly) has fed the lab rat a piece of radioactive gamma broccoli, and the lab rat turns into a burgeoning, temper tantrum throwing rodent. what’s up with that??! Dexter must leave his comfort zone and infiltrate a new world of doubtful ruffians who are top secret superspeed. Can he manage to conceal his true identity and get the info from the Superfly ring so he can get the rat back to normal and save his schoolmates from a fate worse than a wheel of moldy mozzarella? You have to read it to find out. It’s not as exciting as an installment of Spy Kids, but it’s a hell of a fun ride! Go get your kid a copy when it comes out. They’ll have a hell of a fun ride!
