Lucy and the Rocket Dog by Will Buckingham(5 out of 5)

This is a freaking adorable book. And as most of you know, not my usual gig. Why did I borrow this from Holly’s ARC pile? Because of the bassett hound. Laika is the bassett hound, by the way. Lucy loves space so much that she’s built her own spaceship in the backyard, The Prototype I. It is in no way ready to get sent into space, until Laika wanders into it one day looking for Lucy, and accidentally gets sent into space. This sets quite a chain of events into place.Lucy has no choice but to use her scientific smarts to get her puppy home from space. The thing the advance doesn’t warn you about? That you may, may (not admitting anything here!), May cry. But it is a joyous story of love between a little girl and her dog..With some science thrown in for good measure. Heartwarming and such a great feel good book for the young ones. The book itself is not out until August 15, 2017, from the folks at Random House Kids. So put it in your digital lists now, because you will want to pick a copy up for your little one. Target age range for this story is 8-12 years of age. Anyone who loves dogs and space will love this one.
