SumoKitty by David Biedrzycki (5 out of 5)

No lie..The cover of this kids’ hardcover story book reminded me of Sasha, my corpulent tuxedo cat. Apparently I entered a raffle to win the book. Not surprisingly, I won! This was a delightful little romp and the illustrations are awesome! This is on sale August 12, 2019, from Charlesbridge.

A stray kitty gets a job in a job in a sumo stable (such things exist?!?!), chasing mice for food. He overeats and it slows him down on the job, so our frisky feline decides to get in shape and train…like a sumo wrestler. But…as a cat…so…SumoKitty is born! With the help of a friend, he turns himself around, in the cutest of ways. This book teaches the child about overcoming your challenges, the power of persistence, and yes, sumo wrestling moves. Exactly the odd combo in a kids’ book that I enjoy. And I really enjoyed it! If I didn’t already mention it, the illustrations kick ass! A definite recommend for interactive storytime and for your young ones between the ages of 6-9 years old.
